The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) has bought two (2) hotels in the West San Fernando Valley for Project Homekey that will be converted into permanent shelter facilities. These interim facilities are to assist the homeless transition into more permanent housing which is currently slated for construction in the coming year.
Included in the purchase is the Super 8 Motel located at 7631 Topanga Canyon Boulevard in Canoga Park approximately two miles north of the Westfield Topanga Mall. It consists of 52 rooms which will be remodeled to include kitchenettes in each.
The Howard Johnson’s Hotel located at 7432 Reseda Boulevard in Reseda was also part of the acquisition. It consists of 75 rooms that will be completely refurbished and contain kitchens as well.
This joint effort was made possible by the cooperation at both the local and state levels with funding provided by the California Homekey Program and CARES Act funding to combat the homeless crisis that has swept across the state.
